Short Bio
Charlie Widmer is the 19th Connecticut State Troubadour (2026–2029) and an award-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer, and music educator. Born in Zürich, Switzerland, and based in Connecticut, the Swiss-Puerto Rican multi-genre artist is celebrated for an extraordinary stylistic range that seamlessly bridges classical opera, modern bluegrass, and contemporary folk. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Western Connecticut State University.
Charlie’s diverse career includes a show-stopping appearance on Switzerland’s televised talent competition Die grössten Schweizer Talente, where he earned a standing ovation from the celebrity judging panel. A premier ensemble vocalist, his elite credits include featured solo work with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and Salt Marsh Opera, as well as backup vocals for Michael Bublé and Josh Groban at Madison Square Garden, Sarah Brightman at Radio City Music Hall, and 30 Seconds to Mars.
Equally dynamic leading a band, Charlie is a songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist for the acclaimed bluegrass quartet On the Trail—whose single "What Do I Need With Love" reached #3 on SiriusXM's Bluegrass Junction charts—and fronted the hip-hop/soul fusion group Sub-Urban. A recent semi-finalist in the 2026 International Songwriting Competition, Charlie continues to release original solo and collaborative music across all streaming platforms while serving as an ambassador for cultural literacy throughout the Northeast.
