Connecticut State Troubadour (2026–2029)

Charlie Widmer is the 19th Connecticut State Troubadour (2026–2029) and an award-winning singer, songwriter, and music educator offering engaging in-school music visits throughout Connecticut. As part of his official work as State Troubadour, Charlie brings professional musicianship, arts education, and cultural literacy directly into classrooms and school communities.

The Connecticut State Troubadour is an honorary position established in 1991 to serve as an ambassador of music and song, celebrating Connecticut’s culture, history, and stories through music. Charlie’s in-school programs reflect this mission by connecting students to music as a living, accessible, and meaningful art form.

Professional Musician & Experienced Educator

Charlie Widmer holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Western Connecticut State University and has been a professional performer and educator for over a decade. He has been:

• Playing guitar for over 20 years

• Playing piano for over 16 years

• Teaching voice, guitar, and piano privately for over 12 years

His teaching experience spans students ages 5 to 85, and his instructional style is adaptable, encouraging, and age-appropriate for elementary, middle, and high school learners.

In-School Visits & Educational Outreach

As part of his role as Connecticut State Troubadour, Charlie conducts in-school visits, workshops, and assemblies designed to inspire creativity, curiosity, and confidence through music. His programs introduce students to:

• The life of a professional musician

• Songwriting and musical storytelling

• Vocal expression and healthy singing

• Guitar and piano as tools for creativity

• How music connects history, culture, and community

Charlie has extensive experience working directly with schools and arts organizations, including:

• Salt Marsh Opera, where he conducted in-school visits introducing students to opera and the life of a professional singer

• New Haven Symphony Orchestra, where he served as a host for an in-school program introducing children ages 3–9 to music from around the world

Each visit is tailored to the age group and learning goals of the school, with an emphasis on participation, listening skills, and creative engagement.
