Solo Career Milestone: Recording My First Single in Switzerland

Hi everyone,

March came and went, and, for the first time in a long time, I didn't have gig after gig to run off to. Instead, I took the time to visit with friends I haven't had enough time to connect with, headed out to Chicago with my wife for several days, and even enjoyed a handful of weekends without work (which any professional musician will tell you is a rarity). Just like all things, though, the tide is about to turn and things are going to get very busy.

Some of you may remember that back in late September/early October of 2022, I headed off to Switzerland to perform as a special guest for an event with Das Zelt. I posted about the experience and how great it was, but I left out something that happened: I was personally invited to the studio of one of Switzerland's biggest rockstars, Baschi, to start tracking some of my original music! Working with him and his incredibly brilliant business partner and producer, Phil van Merk, we tracked lead and back up vocals and guitar for three of my originals. My wife, Shelby, even sang on one of them and my brother, Fred, aka HVMN, rapped on one as well!

Since then, it's been months of back and forth, figuring out details on how we'd move forward, launching my own small business Charlie Widmer Music LLC, and fighting to put together a picture of what this new venture is all about with my core team and many trusted advisors. I am happy to announce that next week, I will be heading back to Switzerland to wrap up recording on my first single! I'll also be doing some press, photo shoots, filming, and of course visiting with my dear family and friends.

Here are some things to look out for this month:

I've got lots of hopes for what's to come from this next trip, but the thing that I'm most excited about is starting to share all the music I've written over the years with you all. Sure, I've released plenty of originals with my bands On the Trail and Sub-Urban, but this venture into solo music will be a chance for me to try and show the type of artist I am all on my own. What we've made so far in this first single is already so moving to me and is exactly the type of sound I've been chasing. Can't wait to show it to you in the months to come. Until then, I hope we see each other somewhere out in the world.
