A Whirlwind First Two Months: CT State Troubadour Update

Charlie Widmer being honored by his hometown of Oxford, Connecticut for his recent appointment as Connecticut State Troubadour
My certificate and Town Coin given to me by the Town of Oxford in recognition of my new appointment

Hi everyone,

I am just coming up on two months now as the newest Connecticut State Troubadour, and what a whirlwind it has been! I've met so many new creative people in the last eight weeks—all of them kind, passionate about what they do, and dedicated to the Connecticut arts scene. Needless to say, it has left my head spinning and my heart full.

Recent Highlights

There have been so many moments that it is hard to keep up, but here are a few of the biggest:

  • Media Blitz: A huge thank you to Hearst Media for their extensive coverage of my new appointment.

  • On the Air: I had the pleasure of doing radio interviews for We the People and the New Haven Independent, and I appeared on WTNH’s Nyberg (Ann Nyberg is officially the coolest, most collected person I’ve ever met).

  • Nashville Trip: I headed down to Music City with On the Trail for a week of songwriting, networking, and recording.

  • Honors: I was recently honored by the Town of Oxford and their leadership to acknowledge my appointment as troubadour, and I also had my song "What Do I Need With Love" advanced to the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Contest.

  • Recent Stages: OTT played an incredible show at The Granite in Redding, CT, with an amazing string quartet, followed by a performance at the prestigious Voices in the Heights series in Brooklyn.

Upcoming Performances

I have some very special programs coming up in March and April that I would love to share with you:

  • Sanibel Island, Florida (March 21): I’ll be a featured soloist with the Opera Theater of Connecticut for two shows focusing on the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

  • Seven Last Songs (April 3): A unique performance where artists interpret the final sentences of Jesus. I will be performing an original composition specifically for this event.

  • Olde Church Acoustic Series (April 10): My solo debut at this famous series, sharing the bill with the wonderful Goodnight Blue Moon.

Lessons & Education

I am always looking for new students! Whether you are looking to learn a new skill, refine your current craft, or just want to see how we can work together, I’d love to hear from you.

A Final Thought

As I pack for Florida, I can’t help but feel thankful for all of the support I’ve received. For years, I fought the part of me that wanted to jump from a tux to a floral shirt—from opera to bluegrass and back. I eventually realized that by embracing every genre that interests me, I’ve found exactly who I’m meant to be.

Hope to see you at a show sometime soon.

With love,

Charlie
